Hello Arts Club,

Thank you to everyone who has come out to the last two skill share meetings! I think it's been really fun to learn from and share with each other.

I had a few questions about materials for the ink wash, and so I thought I would list them all here. Like I said, there's no wrong way to do it, and no wrong materials, but here's what I use:

-Sennelier shallac ink (various colors e.g. ultramarine, turquoise, prussian blue, grey, raw sienna, sepia, olive green)

-Fabriano Artistico hot press watercolor paper (640gsm/300#)

-Raphaël Kaerell varnish brush (Acrylic Brush Series 291 Flat #100)

Our next meeting in two weeks will be a skill share session. Aina, our advisor, will demo how to transfer a drawing to canvas, paper, or other surfaces. That will take place on Feb 5, at our regular meeting time (12:15pm).

I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to the spring semester! I just wanted to let you all know that the first Arts Club meeting of the semester is scheduled for next week on Wednesday 1/22/25 at 12:15pm. 

For our first meeting, I thought we could share what we worked on over the break, or anything else you might want to get critique on or showcase. 

Going forward, we will either have someone present on sharing a skill, or we will have a group peer critique during meeting times. I sent out an email with a spreadsheet where you can sign up to share a skill if applicable, or to share your work. If you did not receive the email, you can either let me know, or sign up for email updates here via the website.

This marks the end of the 2024 Fall Semester! I hope everyone has a restful Winter Break. Please feel free to use this space or the CSM Arts Club Discord to communicate with each other over the break! If you plan to keep working over the break to keep your skills sharp, reach out here on our Arts Club platforms if you would like to get a group together to keep you company!

• Six club members brought art work for feedback/critique/new ideas from other club members. All the work presented was in-process, unfinished. Lots of interesting, valuable discussion ensued.

• Announcements:

1) Remember the party on Friday afternoon at 2pm.

2) FYI: There is an open Printmaking class (both I and II) being offered spring semester at Skyline College which needs more students to sign up. Professor reportedly is very good (Irene Carvajal, previously taught at Foothill college). Class is around 3-5 PM on Tues and Thurs)

3) Also check out Plein Air at CSM - taught by Biz Rasam (Iqbal)! Plein air is an outdoor landscape painting class. The class uses oil paints, so it is a great way to practice your oil painting skills and get out of the studio for a bit. I've taken several levels of this class and really enjoyed…

Here are the minutes for our last meeting:

We briefly discussed next semester's Student Art Exhibition, which is scheduled to happen May 3-4 (Friday and Saturday).

--We would like to send out an Art Call for this late Jan/early Feb.

--We will need someone to design an advert for our Art Call early next semester (by last week of January)

Our End-of-Semester Party is scheduled to take place on Friday Dec 13 from 2:30-5pm.
